²³ Now when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not ^[a]followed, he ^[b]saddled his donkey and arose and went to his home, to ^(A)his city, and ^[c](B)set his house in order, and ^(C)strangled himself; thus he died and was buried in the grave of his father.

²⁴ Then David came to ^(D)Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him. ²⁵ Absalom set ^(E)Amasa over the army in place of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man whose name was ^[d]Ithra the Israelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of ^(F)Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.
